Ecojesuit for Climate Justice: Faith Action towards Inclusive COPs is an online platform Ecojesuit recently launched to share climate stories and voices from a context of faith and hope.
Faith-based groups are at the frontline of climate action and in Laudate Deum, Pope Francis affirms this by reminding all people of faith the shared responsibility to care for Creation. “I ask everyone to accompany this pilgrimage of reconciliation with the world that is our home and to help make it more beautiful, because that commitment has to do with our personal dignity and highest values.” (LD 69)
In December, heads of States and delegates will gather for the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) convened by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, amidst a period of major local and global conflicts and aggravated social vulnerability. Meeting the goals of the 2015 Paris Agreement is seriously lagging, and commitments to phase out fossil fuels, mobilize climate finance, and implement climate action on food and water security, among others, are waning.
Ecojesuit continues to share in the call for greater collaboration in engaging with the COP process at the local, national, and global levels, and uphold tough hope and deepened faith as valid forms of participation in such spaces.
It is through faith that commitment is strengthened in working towards an integral ecology as a way of living while being with and accompanying the most vulnerable.
All are invited to share local to global climate justice initiatives, events, and stories in this virtual platform for faith-based engagement for inclusive COPs provides space for:
- Sharing articles, stories, reflections, materials, and resources on climate justice
- Amplifying ‘voices of integrity’ at the frontline of the climate crisis calling for urgent action and change through short videos
- Inviting others to connect with events and initiatives contributing to the call of climate justice, and
- Encouraging collaboration between faith-based groups and civil society organizations within and beyond the Ecojesuit network.
The Ecojesuit for Climate Justice: Faith Action towards Inclusive COPs website is a platform for communicating stories of accompanied communities and highlights how faith brings greater awareness of the suffering of the most vulnerable and gives hope towards inclusive and better COPs.
