Fraternity at the frontiers: Global interactive map of Jesuit social centres

On 3 February, International Day of Human Fraternity, the Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) of the Society of Jesus launched the Global interactive Map of Jesuit Social Centres with Father Arturo Sosa, Superior General of the Jesuits, inaugurating and addressing participants to the event, Fraternity@Frontiers.

The online map is a response to the call of GC 35 and 36, the Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) of the Society, and also to the invitation of Pope Francis to recognize that “everything is interconnected” (LS 70) and that “interdependence obliges us to think of one world with a common plan” (LS 164).

Father Sosa reminded participants that “networking and collaboration are fundamental to our mission and way of proceeding … to attend to the whole human person and the society in which we live.”

The online map lists Jesuit initiatives to promote the faith that does justice, particularly those dedicated to social justice and ecology. In addition, the interactive global map fosters collaboration and networking towards socioenvironmental-economic transformation to ensure the well-being of humanity and all of God’s creation. Each social centre’s name, point person, postal address, and website are some vital information made available initially. The map also provides filters to see the type of work done at various centres. SJES will update the information annually.

In his address, Father Sosa identified the purpose of the global interactive map, sharing that “…(i)t can help develop a sense of identity as a universal body with a shared apostolic mission. Nothing can be more powerful than having a strong sense of life-mission shared fully in the networks through collaboration to achieve maximum efficiency.”

The interactive map is available at the SJES website.
