Guardians of Creation project webinar, helping translate Laudato Si’ into practical action

The Guardians of Creation Project (GoCP), a research program that offers guidance on how faith-based organizations can respond to the ecological crisis, is holding a webinar on 7 February 2024 to explain the work and discuss its application in organizations in different countries.

First developed to support the ecological objectives of Catholic bishops in the UK and across the Global North, the project has since broadened especially after Pope Francis issued Laudato Si’ in 2015. Since 2020, the GoCP has worked with Catholic dioceses in England and Wales to develop guidance on decarbonizing its properties.

The GoCP framework has seven main reports and supplementary materials, each dealing with a separate aspect of decarbonizing a diocese, and benefiting from the contributions of more than 100 experts from the worlds of sustainability and faith-based organizations.

While the project focused on England and Wales, the framework can be applied to faith-based organizations anywhere in the world, especially those looking to translate Laudato Si’ into practical action, to share good practices, and to explore how to address perceived barriers to ecological transformation.

The webinar will run three times on 7 February 2024 for 1.5 hours to accommodate participants from different time zones: UTC 0800 (Asia Pacific); UTC 1200 (Europe, Middle East, and Africa); and UTC 1900 (the Americas).

The GoCP webinar is intended primarily for individuals with managerial responsibility in dioceses, religious orders, charities, and other religious and faith-based organizations. In the months following the webinars, the GoCP team will provide free consultations and advice if needed.

For those interested to join the GoCP webinar, please fill out the signup form to register for the webinar. The signup form will close on 5 February, UTC 23:59. Please see the GoCP website for more information.
