The 2014 World Forum theme “Mobilizing the Worldwide Jesuit Network: Collaboration for Global Sustainability” emphasizes the urgency of education, research, and global impact on issues of social responsibility and sustainability concerns and responds to the call for member schools to continue and expand their leading role in contributing to a keener awareness of social responsibility and sustainability issues.

Building on the first five years of the forum’s 10-year commitment to provide leadership for global sustainability, this year’s forum will assess collaborative projects on the ground and explore opportunities for mobilizing the worldwide network of Jesuit institutions and Jesuit-trained individuals to contribute to a more sustainable world. This forum will encourage sharing and discussion of initiatives and collaborations in scholarship, pedagogy, and practice under the following general themes:

  • Research on ethics and sustainability concerns
  • Education for a deeper understanding of ethics and sustainability issues
  • Service learning for a more ethical and sustainable world
  • Collaborations within and beyond the worldwide Jesuit network on initiatives to alleviate poverty and heal the environment
  • Spiritual and religious contributions to ethics and global sustainability

Traditional academic papers on these topics by professors and advanced students are welcome. In addition, proposals for panel and roundtable sessions addressing opportunities to encourage collaboration within and beyond the Jesuit network and initiatives to contribute to a more ethical and sustainable world are eagerly sought. While this call invites the submission of papers, panels, and symposium proposals that address the topics above, it also invites unique contributions from authors that specifically connect to the World Forum theme in other topical areas.
