The Luciano Mendes de Almeida National Observatory for Socio-Environmental Justice (Olma) has just released the 36th edition of the Reading and Reflecting Collection, with an urgent and inspiring theme: The Society of Jesus and Climate Justice at COP30.
Just a few months before COP30, which will take place in November 2025 in Belém (PA), the text invites us to see the climate crisis not only as an environmental issue, but also as a moral, spiritual, and civilizational crisis.
Produced in collaboration with Luiz Felipe Lacerda (Olma–Unicap), Fr. Silvio Marques Santos, SJ (Sares), and Vinicius Ferreira da Paixão, SJ (Laudato Si’ Institute – Oxford), the document presents the vision and commitment of the Society of Jesus at this decisive moment for the planet. In light of COP30, the Society proposes three global strategic agendas:
- Cancellation of the external debt of Global South countries
- A just and community-centered energy transition
- Strengthening agroecology and food sovereignty
The document reaffirms the importance of the active participation of civil society and the peoples of the Amazon in building truly just and sustainable solutions.
