Belém (PA) — The 2025 edition of the Círio de Nazaré is emerging as both an environmental and spiritual intervention. With the theme “Mary, Mother and Queen of All Creation,” this year’s celebration unites Marian devotion and ecological commitment, urging the faithful to reflect on the urgency of climate change during one of the world’s largest Catholic pilgrimages. The proximity of the UN Climate Conference (COP30), to be held in Belém in November, makes this moment both symbolic and strategic.
Among the leading organizations in this initiative are Casa Galileia, the COP30 Committee, the Pan-Amazonian Ecclesial Network (REPAM-Brazil), the Chico Mendes Committee, Mandí, Tapajós de Fato, the Church Towards COP30 Network, and the School of Activism. Together, these entities will carry out visual actions—such as the distribution of ribbons, hand fans, street posters, and banners—with faith-based messages promoting the defense of the Amazon and climate care.
The mobilization will also reach Vila da Barca, a stilt-house community along the Guajará River, where residents face environmental impacts and government neglect. There, street posters have been placed on walls and barriers, reaffirming the presence of marginalized voices in the dialogue between faith and ecology.
Rádio Amar e Servir: Jesuit Voice at the Heart of Mobilization
Rádio Amar e Servir, a communication platform linked to the Society of Jesus and Ignatian spirituality, plays a strategic role in this movement. Historically, the radio has been a channel for content on spirituality, formation, and faith outreach, with a special focus on youth leadership.
Within the context of Círio 2025, the station will broadcast ecological prayers, messages on socio-environmental justice, and calls for participation in the pilgrimages and public actions related to COP30. Through the radio, the Society of Jesus expands its communicative mission—not only to proclaim faith but to engage with the world, connecting prayer and commitment.
Youth Networks: MAGIS Brasil and Young Leadership
The Ignatian Youth Network – MAGIS Brasil, a Jesuit ministry that coordinates youth initiatives across the country, also plays an essential role in the mobilization. The network promotes socio-environmental education, youth engagement, and transformative communication, preparing young people to act in their contexts with spirituality and responsibility.
During the Círio, MAGIS youth are expected to help execute visual interventions, participate in media coverage, and spread ecological awareness among the pilgrims.
