From September 1, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, to October 4, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the Church celebrates the Season of Creation: a period that unites the faithful and communities in prayer and in an active commitment to care for our Common Home.
Instituted by Pope Francis, the Season of Creation seeks to expand our praise of the Creator, strengthen our awareness of the greatness of His work, and renew the Covenant established by God with all living creatures (cf. Gen 9:8–17).
Concrete Actions to Live the Season of Creation
During these weeks, everyone is invited to embrace actions that reflect faith and Christian commitment to the care of life:
- Pray and give thanks for the beauty of creation and for those who work for socio-environmental justice.
- Rediscover the presence of the Holy Spirit in the uniqueness of every created being.
- Reduce consumption, recycle, preserve ecosystems, and expand green areas.
- Foster a conversion of mindset and unsustainable habits.
- Integrate the theme of creation into liturgies, especially in the Mass for the Protection of Creation.
Theme 2025: “Peace with Creation”
Inspired by Isaiah 32:14–18, this year’s theme evokes a scenario of desolation caused by injustice and the breakdown of the relationship between God and humanity. In response, the reflection proposed by the Ecumenical Steering Committee highlights the urgent need to restore harmony through faith, justice, and the integral care of our planet.
In his 2025 message, Pope Leo XIV invites us all to renew our commitment to caring for our Common Home by practicing environmental justice and becoming seeds of hope and peace amid today’s challenges.
Let us pray that, inspired by Saint Francis, we might experience our interdependence with all creatures who are loved by God and worthy of love and respect. Pope Leo XIV – September 2025
Every Action Counts
During the Season of Creation 2025, every prayer, every act of care, and every effort to protect our planet becomes a seed that blossoms into peace, hope, and tangible change.
Resources for 2025
