The Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat (SJES) is organizing an online book launch of their latest publication, Cannonball Moments: Testimonies of Conversion, an anthology of 25 stories of Jesuits and collaborators working in the social apostolate in the six Jesuit Conferences, on 10 November 2023, from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm (Central European Time).
The book launch will also feature a panel discussion with Paul Béré SJ (Professor at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, Italy). Mary Baudouin (Provincial Assistant for Justice and Ecology, USA Central and Southern Province), José Francisco Yuraszeck Krebs SJ (General Chaplain at Hogar de Cristo in Santiago, Chile), and Benedict Mayaki SJ (Communications Office of the General Curia in Rome, Italy).
“On the occasion of the jubilee of St. Ignatius’ conversion, the collaborators in the mission of the suffering Christ who attend to the marginalized (cf. Luke 10:30-37) have compiled their mission experiences. Just as Ignatius’ woundedness gave birth to the saint through a long journey of conversion, the social apostolate collaborators bear witness to the transformations that have occurred through their mission work.” (From the Foreword by Paul Béré SJ)
“These testimonies are also stories of their own conversion. They tell us how an inner experience became a passion for working with people in vulnerable situations in different parts of the world. The testimonies describe ‘why they do, what they do?’; ‘Their involvement in social ministries brings them hope, joy and a sense of mission. They can see God present in the people and situations they serve’. (From the Editorial by Xavier Jeyaraj SJ)
To join the book launch, there is no need to register in advance. Those interested can visit SJES website on 10 November and find the link to join the event. There will be simultaneous translation in English and Spanish. For more information, please send an email to sjes-sec@sjcuria.org.
The SJES publication is available in English, Cannonball Moments: Testimonies of Conversion and Spanish, Momentos bala de cañón: Testimonios de conversión.
