Fe y Alegría on the road to COP30: for sustainable education, youth action and climate justice

Fe y Alegría has launched a federative process of preparation to actively participate in the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP30), to be held in Brazil in November 2025. This participation reflects our Movement’s deep commitment to socio-environmental justice and to the promotion of the right to transformative education as a key to sustainable development.

A Working Committee Serving the Process

To coordinate this preparation, a working committee has been formed with representatives from the Youth Initiative, the Integral Ecology Initiative, Fe y Alegría Brazil, the Conference of Jesuit Provincials of Latin America and the Caribbean (CPAL), the New Frontiers team, and the federative Public Action team.

This group is drafting a foundational document, with contributions from both initiatives, to guide Fe y Alegría’s participation in COP30. The document will gather ideas, proposals, and objectives, and will be closely aligned with the federation’s strategic line of public action: Education for Sustainable Development.

Youth on the Move: Reflection, Leadership, and Clear Demands

The Youth Initiative has led a broad participatory reflection process: three virtual meetings with more than 150 young people, and two in-person meetings held in April and May in the Basque Country (Spain) and Cartagena (Colombia), respectively. There is also an effort to involve young people from the River Above Asia Oceania Ecclesial Network (RAOEN), with the support of the Internationalization Team.

These spaces have addressed topics such as:

  • The climate crisis and its impact on the well-being of societies.
  • Current environmental challenges.
  • The role of young people in political advocacy and in international spaces like the COP.
  • The Society of Jesus’ positions regarding COP30 and the gathering of input to build collective proposals.

Integral Ecology: Formation, Awareness, and Global Action

Through the Integral Ecology Initiative, a series of open webinars have been held across the movement, with more than 500 participants:

  • April 26: “Water: Right and Commitment”
  • May 6: “Land: Ecosystems and the Right to Life”
  • May 28: “Together for Climate Justice: Towards COP30,” in collaboration with the Society of Jesus, in the context of the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’.

Articulation and International Presence

Fe y Alegría actively participates in spaces of articulation with ecology leaders from CPAL, Ecojesuit, SJES, and SJPAM, promoting a shared perspective based on integral ecology.

Looking ahead to COP30, the participation of two young representatives of the movement has already been confirmed. An internal selection process is underway to ensure these young people can take on spokesperson roles, sharing their reflections in the available forums and serving as a bridge between those attending in person and those following the event from their home countries.

Fe y Alegría moves forward with determination toward COP30, firmly convinced that the defense of the planet, climate justice, and transformative education are inseparable. This journey is guided by our popular, youth-driven, and international identity, with the hope that the voices of the most vulnerable will continue to resonate powerfully in the spaces where the future of humanity is being decided.
